ActivityEducated at Clifton College. 1885, Lieutenant Royal Engineers, 1899-1900 on active service in South Africa where he was decorated. 1902, made a Major and became Secretary to War Office Committee on Mechanical Transprt. Then in 1906, he retired and three years later became clerk of the race course at Brooklands (until 1929). In 1914, he rejoined the army as a Colonel. He was awarded a CBE in 1920. He was also, Vice-President of the Royal Automobile Club (RAC).
