DescriptionEarly images of railway construction.

Items 1-47 are photographs of the Bhore Ghat [Bhore Ghaut] Railway incline, part of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway, Bombay-Poona, India. Building work was overseen by Alice Tredwell , wife of the original engineer, Solomon Tredwell, who died 15 Sep 1855, fifteen days after his arrival in India. The work was completed by George H Clowser and Swainston Adamson. The line opened on 14 May 1863.

Note: BUS/71/3/48 and 49 are possibly in Spain and BUS/71/3/50 onwards are a signed set of probably British railway scenes.
